The main focus of this study is to identify progress and setbacks of ‘parachute methods’ which is a new technology invented by the Rice Research Institute at Batalagoda for broadcasting of seedlings in paddy cultivation. The study reveals that the technology has been popular among the farming community due to its high yielding potential resulting from undisturbed seedling vigour and increased number of tillers in a plant.
