This document is part of the European Commission’s Asia-urbs programme and the LASDO project between the cities of Colombo, Paris and Madrid. This project is aimed at providing the Colombo Municipal Council with a computerized map of the city and several planning and communication tools based on geographical information system technologies. It deals with the underserved settlements matter which corresponds to one of the highest concerns of the Municipality. The project seeks to encourage the involvement and participation of the local population through cooperation with a non-governmental organization and community based organizations. Another objective is also to promote more links with other international projects under way in Colombo. The aim of the report is to situate the context of the intervention, analyze the problems encountered, present the planned methodology and the activities carried out in directing the project.
