The research report published in October 2012 covers implementation of phase 1 of Solar Powered Drip Irrigation system implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture to provide water in scarce areas of Sri Lanka. The report highlights the stages covered in Phase 1 of implementation of SDPI systems and helps analyze the performance. A key highlight of the SDPI system is that it is environment friendly and is able to minimize the climate change impacts on water and food sector. The report is largely based on the agriculture sector which consumes the largest share of water reserves and the measures taken to encourage farmers to make use of the technology. The report is also a useful analysis for future promotion of the technology and effective use in order to reduce the agricultural water consumption. It also provides with recommendations on the way forward for use of advance water technologies.
