This book is a compilation of four essays. The first essay titled “Mr. Chidambaram's War attacks the government's attitude and approach towards the Maoist. It also examines the nature of progress and development and asks some fundamental questions about the real meaning of civilization. The 2nd essay, titled “Walking with the Comrades” the author narrates her personal encounters with the Naxals. She also provides an insight into the functioning, motives, methodology of the Maoist. “Trickledown Revolution” is the 3rd essay where the author points out that the benefits of India's high growth has still not reached these tribals and that the growth rates have been built by taking land from the poor without properly rehabilitating and compensating them. The Author says that the relation between growth and jobs is a myth. In the final essay “Capitalism - A Ghost Story” essay, the Author attacks the practice of ‘corporate philanthropy' in India. She strongly criticises the new ‘mega crops' for exploiting the natural resources of the country under the veil of Corporate Social Responsibility. She says that the demand for global capitalism is responsible for giving rise to unexplained displacement, dispossession and deprivation. The book gives first hand information about Naxalism. It also depicts the Maoist viewpoint vividly, raising the nuances of the conflict between capitalist and maoist idea of development. The book also highlights the nexus between politicians, corporate and media and exposes how the present model of development is not inclusive and unsustainable.
