This is the 30th in the series of Special Publications released by the Department of Census and Statistics on retail and producer price data. The price information given in this publication relates to household consumption expenditure on food and other items, and is based on data compiled on a regular monthly basis and analysed for a variety of statistical purposes. Special reference has been given to the data collected for compilation of the Colombo Consumers' Price Index. In addition to this, levels and changes in prices at selected producing and consuming centers are shown for different Districts of the Island. The statistical data series presented here basically covered the period 2009 to 2012 with comparable figures given for selected years in all tables. A graphical presentation on movements of monthly price indices for All Items, Food and Non-Alcohol Beverages of the Colombo Consumers' Price Index (Base 2006/07 = 100) is also shown in this issue. Results of the study show that the index for food items has increased in 2012 by 4.7% when compared that to 2011. The index for clothing items has also increased by 0.8%. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel have also increased by 9.6%. The inflation, which was measured in terms of the Colombo Consumers' Price Index was 7.6% in 2012, compared to 6.7% in 2011.
