This book provides a comprehensive discussion on the central aspects of torture, which is of direct relevance and importance to practicing medical officers in particular, who assume responsibility for the treatment and management of torture survivors. It also contains useful information for human rights activists. The publication has two sections: a) a brief introduction to The Family Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) that gives a sketch of the mission and the main programme activities carried out by the FRC and b) medical aspects providing a comprehensive discussion on the central aspects of torture, which are of direct relevance and importance to practicing medical officers. The publication also contains information and insights, not only for medical/legal professionals, but also for other responsible members of civil society, including Human Right Activists, who work for the amelioration and distress of torture survivors. The book discusses methods of torture, physical consequences of torture, physical health care management of torture survivors and factors influencing the sequel of torture and rehabilitation.
