This report outlines the topics discussed at the South Asian Regional conference ‘ Democracies without Violence: Engendering Politics, Policies and Actions” held from the 10th-12th of November 2009 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This conference, the third of its kind, discussed the “Violence Against Women in Politics” (VAWIP) one of the biggest obstacles women face in politics in the forms of discrimination, intimidation, character assassination, threat and coercion. This report also discusses the policies that need to be implemented to reduce the inequalities between men and women and create genuine democracy.
