This issue of the Economic Review published by the People,s bank carries an article by CEPA,s Prashanthi Jayasekara titled “On Driving Development through Innovation in a Young World”. This article identifies first and foremost, the pivotal role Science and Technology Innovations (STI) can play in the development agenda. Within that framework, the paper identifies youth as an important agent to change; and discusses the barriers for youth-led innovations and how the larger body of stakeholders can facilitate an enabling environment for youth-led innovations. Provision of access to networks and mentoring to support young innovators is crucial. This can be implemented at early stages of the lives of young people. Young people must be provided with spaces and opportunities to support their innovations. Additionally, existing initiatives such as school councils and the Youth Parliament could be expanded to take on a strong youth-led focus. Media outlets can be used to promote positive images of young people and youth-led innovation. This can be helpful to overthrow the negative perceptions about youth,s participation in general. Such interventions can create a positive culture and acceptance for youth-led innovations
