This report sets out to examine ways and means of providing affordable, accessible and reliable energy services towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals and poverty reduction in Bangladesh. The publication reports on Bangladesh’s energy sector and its linkages to poverty concerns, gaps therein, and modalities for overcoming the same. It aims to facilitate the inclusion of a strong energy component into the Bangladesh’s socio-economic development programmes. The report also offers options for the country to overcome its energy sector challenges and highlights the urgent need for key data and indicators to support energy monitoring and evaluation of energy access for areas that are least served.
