South Asia has a long history of women fighting for independence and political transformation. However, the harsh reality is that the field of politics still remains male-dominated. It has been accepted, that equality among men and women in the political sphere is an important facet of democracy. Many factors are responsible for the marginalization of women in politics, and violence against women has proved to be one of them.
