This book includes the proceedings of the conference as well as several seminar papers, most of them written by developing country experts, with reference to developing countries.Thus, one of the recommendations of the seminar is that the fundamental objective ofmanifesting the role of the civil society in the international trading system should bebased on the tenet that one has to look into history (with its vicissitudes) as dialogues between the past and the present, while addressing the future. This publication attempts to place this tenet on the proscenium of the internationaltrading system, i.e. before the trade community at large. It not only includes the papersand proceedings of the seminar, but also provides a roadmap to civil society andother actors to look into the linkages between the international trading system andnational development strategies, with development and poverty reduction as the ultimate goal.
