These guidelines are developed as an activity of the Sri Lanka Urban multi Hazard Disaster Mitigation Project (SLUMDMP). These guidelines give the basic awareness required regarding flood hazards and strategies for flood mitigation, flood plain zoning, and settlement planning in flood prone areas and describes guidelines for construction in flood prone areas. This is targeted mainly to the provincial council and local authority level technical personnel engaged in settlement planning.
