This book, essentially, is the life story of Mr C W WKannangara and of contributions made to the educational development of Ceylon. The first two parts of the book provide the background on which the significance of Kannangara’s reforms should be sought. The prologue gives in brief outline and certain aspects of the history of education from 1976 to 1931. Mr. C. W. W. Kannangara became Minister of Education in 1931 and for sixteen years, strove unceasingly to throw the doors of educational opportunities wide open to the boys and girls of the country. The author also gives a biographical sketch of Kannangara, which he obtained from archives, close relatives, contemporaries and paper articles. MrKannangara was the father of Free Education.
