This well-structured report clearly highlights the fact that micro-credit is necessary but not a sufficient condition for micro-enterprise promotion. In other words, micro-finance is not a ‘magic bullet’ in poverty alleviation. The credit plus services, such as identification of sustainable livelihood opportunities, appropriate selection and motivation of the micro-entrepreneurs, provision of business and relevant technical training and establishment of forward and backward linkages, are essential for success. Therefore, mere provision of credit cannot automatically translate into successful micro-enterprises.
