In this publication, the status of Indian Development from selected regional perspectives has been examined. Amartya Sen’s view on the ‘radical needs and moderate reforms’ of India has been presented and several related themes have been critiqued in the work. The purpose of the World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University (UNU/WIDER) is to undertake applied research and policy analysis on structural changes affecting the developing and transitional economies, to provide a forum for the advocacy of policies leading to robust, equitable and environmentally sustainable growth, and to promote capacity strengthening and training in the field of economic and social policy-making.
