This publication delves deep into the subject of the land registration of the Dutch in Sri Lanka. It is a detailed and an analytical volume which describes the Head and Land tombo registration which is a unique series of records consisting of 457 volumes, deposited in the National Archives of Sri Lanka. The native system of land registration, the Lekammiti and the manner in which the Portuguese and Dutch made use of them to compile the forals and tombos respectively has been explored. The publication covers three broad themes: the Dutch Administration of Sri Lanka, the structural development of the tombos and the society depicted in the tombos.
