This article outlines some challenges and inconsistencies facing Sri Lanka's preschool system. 84% of preschools in Sri Lanka are privately owned, meaning there is little oversight and monitoring to ensure that schools offer a cohesive and consistent education throughout the country. The result is that many regions offer vastly differing curriculum, and some basic standards are not met. This leads to many wealthy children entering primary school with an even greater advantage than their peers who may not have attended preschool, or attended a sub-par one.
