The book published by Women’s Center of Free Trade Zone, documents the protest launched by the workers of the Free Trade Zone against the proposed Employees’ Pension Fund Act that was cautiously presented to the parliament. The proposed pension plan would have taken away the workers of the FTZ of their savings that were under the Employees Provident Fund. The book provides eye witness and participants’ accounts of the suppression by the armed forces on May 30th when workers grouped on the Katunayaka-Colombo road where a peaceful protest took place. The book also highlights the history of the FTZ, their workforce and their struggle for the past thirty years in order to secure basic facilities and basic rights for themselves. The Women’s Center’s role in this struggle is manifest in this book.
