In 2004, the UNICEF carried out a National Survey on the emerging issues among adolescents in Sri Lanka. This report conveys the findings of the said survey. The report highlights adolescents into school going practices and those who are out of school and under each section a socio-demographic profile is given. The report primarily addresses the areas of life skills, mental wellbeing, substance abuse, reproductive health, sexual behaviour and sexually transmitted diseases and sexual abuse. The report also looks into the differences among school going adolescents from various districts. Each area is discussed in detail and the findings of the survey are attractively presented in the forms of graphs, charts and maps. The report very clearly conveys the nature of adolescents in Sri Lanka and the issues faced by them. Based on these findings, the report also presents recommendations on how to combat each issue.
