This study is based on a study carried out in the immediate aftermath of the 2018 Local Government elections.  The entry of 1991 women into local politics examines various challenges and experiences of women politicians who have navigated their challenges of gaining nominations, contesting elections, winning ward seats etc. to enter into Local Authorities.  The study highlights the current broader political discourse on the role of political representatives, functioning of parties, elections, electoral engineering of parties and the nature of elections and electioneering. Moreover, the study enquires how various conditions such as family background, status within the party, economic capacity and political knowledge impact women politicians, ability to progress in their political career.  Sinhala and Tamil versions are also available
