The findings of this study highlight that land rights have become of paramount concern to the majority as well as the minorities in Sri Lanka, impacting mainly on the poor and the already marginalised. The question of a viable solution to the predicament that thousands of Sri Lankan citizens are currently facing in relation to their dispossession is posed. Several policy and legal measures are proposed in the interests of the protection of land rights of property holders as well as ensuring the payment of fair compensation. It is hoped that the findings of this study will serve to stimulate informed public debate on what certainly must remain a most pressing and a common issue for the Sri Lankan people, regardless of their ethnicity and place of residence.
