This paper is one out of a series of papers that deal with the growing momentum around education in South Asia. While there has been much progress in the education of girls, there are still many challenges that need to be overcome. When addressing education for girls in South Asia the social and cultural contexts must also be considered. This paper deals with how education, for girls in particular, is affected in times emergencies such as armed conflict or natural disasters. The paper uses various examples of steps taken in particular countries and analyses the nature of the specific problems faced by girls in each country. Based on the status quo and context of each country, the paper provides innovative programmes and good practices that can be used to aid girls in these situations.
