This report was prepared by a group of National Apprenticeship and Industrial TrainingAuthority (NAITA) officials. This tracer study is focused on the quality of the output of the Trainer Training Project. The objectives of this tracer study have been to examine the types and nature of courses thatare being conducted, and to examine how far such courses help the trainers and the institutes in their efforts to carryout institutional training successfully. The study describes the history of NAITA, giving particular attention to the causes for the origin of this organization and the prevailing situation of the country at that time. It further describes the attempts made by NAITA at the early stages on the subject of training of trainers. The report also contains information on a baseline study that has been carried out in 2001 by the Swiss Contact, Sri Lanka. The main focus has been on the situation of the institutional instructors of the TEVT sector in Sri Lanka. Shortcomings have been identified on the part of both the instructor profile as well as the training institutions. Remedial measures have been proposed as recommendations, for these weaknesses.
