This is a research study thatwill be helpful to decision makers in improving the quality and relevance of the TEVT programmes. The study is mainly focused on the management and implementation aspects of trade testing. Several shortcomings of the present system are emphasized in this study. The absence of a regular system for updating trade testing instruments, such as practical and theoretical question papers, is considered as a major shortcoming. The study finds that the average time taken for issuing certificates is not satisfactory and the importance of establishing a national institute responsible for trade testing is highlighted. The study found the necessity of increasing stakeholder awareness on the importance of trade testing, especially the awareness of the industry and the instructors of the private and public technical and vocational training institutes. It is also apparent that a closer relationship should be maintained with the foreign employment agencies and industrial organizations, in order to establish an effective system of trade testing.
