This is the first of a two-volume study, and is a sequel to an earlier volume entitled Rural Poverty in Asia: Priority Issues and Policy Options. It provides in-depth accounts of rural poverty in seven developing countries. These country studies are authored by leading experts, who bring their analytical insights and experience to bear on the inevitable problem of rural poverty in their respective countries. This volume will be of considerable interest to a wide range of readers including academics and policymakers.
