This report on SAARC’s Regional Poverty Profile acknowledges that investment in poverty alleviation programmes contributes to social stability, economic progress and overall prosperity. It emphasizes the need to promote sharing of best practices and experiences among member states and, to this end, instructs the Secretary-General to disseminate such information to member states, on a regular basis. This report profiles the levels of poverty in the SAARC countries and discusses approaches, framework and policies for poverty reduction or alleviation.
