According to recent estimates released by ILO, each year 2.78 million workers die from occupational accidents and work-related diseases (of which 2.4 million are disease-related). In addition, 374 million workers suffer from non-fatal occupational accidents. This is tragic as research and practice over the years has demonstrated that accidents and diseases are preventable. Over a century of existence, and against the backdrop of the challenges of safety and health at work, ILO continues to address Global Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) agenda. OSH is also a key contributing factor of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Besides, OSH is a basic human right of workers and workplaces to ensure safe and secure working environments to experience healthy lives.
