Sri Lanka: A Bitter Harvest surveys the civil, political, social economic and cultural rights of the various minorities, all factors that must be taken into account in order to achieve a durable and lasting peace. It traces the conflict back to its roots, drawing attention to the consequences of the diversity of interests and approaches. This report is explicitly ‘rights’ focused, and uses the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Minorities and other relevant standards to conceptualise the main underlying issues of the conflict, particularly regarding language, education, land, representation and devolution.
