The focus of the Tokyo Symposium was the role of local NGOs in Asia in combating child trafficking in the region. The symposium also demonstrated the Government of Japan's commitment to support the strengthening of human security. It provided a forum for NGOs to share their experiences in implementing their programmes and projects, to discuss the challenges they face both at the policy and practical levels and to explore the extent and nature of cooperation with families, communities and national-level government institutions. This report summarizes the presentations and key issues that were raised at the symposium. It aims to be a useful tool for all those involved with efforts to remedy the situation of child trafficking in Asia and beyond.
