The book reviews urban land management problems and issues in developing countries in Asia. The Urban Management Programme is a technical assistance facility of the United Nations, whose regional office for Asia and the Pacific (UMP-Asia) initiated a framework to assess urban land management policies in a number of Asian countries with the objective of developing a region-specific framework for reforms. The study was based on six municipal case studies and also resulted in commissioning eight country case studies. This book is a compilation of the results found in the eight country case studies. Major areas identified include urban land problems, which are significant in these developing countries and the progress made by the authorities in achieving objectives set out to solve the problem. The increased participation of the private sector in urban development, rising self-reliance and participation of non-governmental organisations have helped bridge the gaps.
