This study begins in the past, exploring the roots of the many traditions of the women in Nagra hill tribes of North East India. These traditions have provided social authorization in the tribal structure of Nagra society for women’s work in peace and reconciliation in India’s longest running internal civil war over the Nagra people’s right to self determination. This study delves into the peace building activities that the Nagra women’s clubs have produced along with a self consciousness in the Nagra society that validates women as ‘making a difference’, especially reaching out to the divided factions in the community.
