Since January 1999 the Marga Institute had undertaken a project entitled ‘A history of Ethnic Conflict in Sri Lanka: recollection, reinterpretation & reconciliation’. The outcomes of the project that were completed are being published in a series of monographs. The monograph No 11 tries to explore the interconnection between gender and ethnic identity in Sri Lanka. It also explores the effects of armed conflict on women and how the roles and responsibilities of women are transformed, especially in the context of female combatant.
