This study is a profile of poverty based on household consumption information collected in the Consumer Finance Survey (CFS) of 2003/04. The study is unique in that its estimates of poverty include a wider geographical coverage than many previous studies (including the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka), and in that it uses a range of poverty lines rather than a single poverty line. The study uses several poverty lines that provide a wide ranging picture of poverty, from the situation of the very poor who face absolute deprivation to the vulnerable non-poor who are in relative poverty. Poverty lines and spatial price indices developed from CFS data in this study can be used as an alternative series to complement the official poverty line, and can be updated in a similar manner.
මෙම අධ්යයනය, 2003/4 සිදු කළ පාරිභෝගික මුල්ය සමීක්ෂණයෙන් එක්රැස් කර ගත් කුටුම්භ පරිභෝජන තොරතුරු පදනම් කරගනිමින් සකස් කළ දරිද්රතා පැතිකඩක් වේ. මෙම අධ්යයනය වඩාත් විශේෂ වන්නේ පෙර අධ්යයනයන් හා බලන කළ වඩා පුළුල් භූ ගෝලීය ප්රදේශයක් මින් ආවරණය කිරීමයි (උතුරු හා නැගෙනහිර පලාත් ද ඇතුළත්ව). මෙහි හුදෙක් එක් දරිද්රතා ඉමක් පමණක් නොව විවිධ දරිද්රතා ඉමයන් ද භාවිත කෙරේ. මින් දරිද්රතාවය පිළිබඳ පුළුල් දැක්මක් ලබා දේ. එනම් නිත්ය දරිද්රතාවයෙන් පෙළෙන පුද්ගලයින්ගේ තත්ත්වයේ සිට දුගී නොවන නමුත් සාපේක්ෂ දරිද්රතාවයෙන් පෙළෙන්නන් ගේ තත්ත්වයන් මින් විදහා දැක්වේ. මෙම අධ්යයනයේ ඇති CFS දත්තයන් මගින් නිල දරිද්රතා ඉම ඌණපුර්ණය කිරීම සඳහා විකල්ප යොදාගත හැකිය. එමෙන් ම ඒ හා සමාන ආකාරයකින් යාවත් කාලීන කළ හැකිය.
