This study aims to develop a numerical indicator on the level of public confidences in the peace process and to use a set of questions related to recent social, economic and political developments in order to capture the public opinion of the peace process. In order to know the changes in public perception over a period of time this study is conducted bi-monthly and this publication presents the top-line results of the September 2003 survey. Information has been collected from a sample of 1,425 persons through interviews, which are based on a structured questionnaire. The survey has been done in 7 provinces excluding the North and the East and the issues range from perceptions of war and peace, to peace talks to foreign aid. The responses are analysed and illustrated using graphs and charts. In addition to the findings, key national and international developments in the period August-September are also included. Some of the findings show that there is an increase in the uncertainty as to whether there will be peace in Sri Lanka and a majority continues to believe that Peace Talks is the way to end the war.
