This monograph examines scholarly conceptualisations of LTTE women militants in Sri Lanka. Through an analysis of some of the global and local discourses on women militants, using the work of both Sri Lankan and international authors, it attempts to unravel the different analytical frameworks within which research on LTTE women militants has been carried out. This discusses contemporary global feminist approaches to women, war and militaries; explores new perspectives on these same issues, recently introduced by South Asian feminist and it also analyses chosen texts on the LTTE women militants and critically examines the variety of theoretical approaches used to understand women’s violence.
