Fish or Fishermen? Coastal fisheries management strategies and fisher livelihoods in Sri Lanka

The clash of interests between fishery management and fisher livelihoods was hotly debated at an Open Forum organised by the Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA) on the 3rd of March 2011. The Open Forum was chaired by Ms. Priyanthi Fernando, Executive Director of CEPA and featured presentations by Mr. Simon Diffey, a fisheries development specialist currently working in Sri Lanka for the FAO and Dr.  Oscar Amerasinghe, Senior Lecturer in Agriculture/Fisheries/ Environmental Economics at the University of Ruhuna.
