Human development: concept and issues in the context of globalisation

The concept of human development extends beyond growth of national or even per capita income to critical aspects of well-being like education, longevity and quality of life. Poverty prevents the process of human development. Lack of adequate income and effective say in public affairs weakens the capacity of the poor to safeguard the freedoms and rights to which they are entitled.
