This publication reports and analyses the outcome of the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Survey (KAPS) 2003, which was done to understand the nature, extent and underlying dynamics of public support for peace negotiations in Sri Lanka.  This was carried out by interviewing a nationwide probability sample of 2,980 persons.  The survey focused on public support for a number of specific proposals that might be included in a agreement “for the sake of peace” and also on the willingness of citizens to protest if they think it is not fair.  This summarizes the KAP survey results as improved by the Focus Group results.  In doing so it summarizes the people’s attitudes of the peace process and focuses on the concessions they are willing to make on behalf of peace and their willingness to protest.  It also looks at factors beyond ethnicity and within ethnicity and makes recommendations.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සාම සාකච්ඡා සඳහා මහජන සහයෝගයේ ගතිකතාවයන්ගේ ප්‍රමාණය හා අවධාරණයට, ස්වභාවය හඳුනාගැනීමට දැනුම, ආකල්ප හා ක්‍රියාකාරකම් සමීක්ෂණය 2003 හි ප්‍රතිඵලයන් වාර්තාකිරීම හා විශ්ලේෂණය මෙම වාර්තාව සිදු කරයි. පුද්ගලයන් 2,980ක දීපව්‍යාප්ත සසම්භාවි නියැදියක් සම්මුඛ සාකච්ඡාවට ලක් කිරීමෙන් මෙය ක්‍රියාත්මක කෙරී ඇත. ‘සාමයේ යහපත සඳහා (ෆෝ ද සේක් ඔෆ් පීස්)’ ගිවිසුම සඳහා ඇතුළත් කළ හැකි  හා එමෙන් ම ඔවුන් එය අසාධාරණ බව සිතන්නේ නම් පුද්ගලයන්ට විරුද්ධතාවය දැක්වීමට ඉඩ දීම පිළිබඳව නිෂ්චිතව හඳුනාගත් යෝජනා කිහිපයක් සඳහා මහජන සහයෝගිතාවය පිළිබඳ මෙම සමීක්ෂණයේ අවධාරණය යොමු කර ඇත. ඉලක්ක කණ්ඩායම් මගින් වැඩිදියුණු කළ ඉහත සමීක්ෂණයේ ප්‍රතිඵල මෙහි සාරංශ කරයි. එසේ කිරීම මගින්, සාම ක්‍රියාවලිය සඳහා ඔවුන්ගේ කැමැත්ත හෝ විරෝධතාවය ඉදිරිපත් කිරීම සඳහා සිදුවීම් පිළිබඳ අවධානය හා සාම ක්‍රියාවලියේ ජනතාවගේ ආකල්ප මෙය සාරංශ කරයි. එමෙන් ම මෙහි ජනවර්ගයට එහා ගිය සාධක හා ජනවාර්ගික ගැටලූ හා නිර්දේශන් සැපයීමත් සිදු කර ඇත.
