The past few years have seen great progress in the area of poverty measurement, both in terms of the development and consolidation of best practice, and in conceptual and methodological advances. This study examines poverty measurement in Sri Lanka against the backdrop of these developments, reviewing 22 poverty measurement studies over the period 1969-2002. It evaluates existing sources of data for poverty measurement, and makes recommendations that identify priority actions for improvement, key players in the process and what steps need to be taken.

கடந்த சில காலங்களில் வறுமை அளவீடு எனும் விடயமானது சிறந்த செயன்முறைகளை விருத்தி செய்தல் மற்றும் திரட்டுதல் எனும் விதத்திலும் கொள்கை அளவிலான மற்றும் ஒழுங்கு முறையான முன்னேற்றங்களிலும் பாரிய வளர்ச்சி கண்டுள்ளது. இவ்வாய்வு 1969-2002 வரையிலான காலப்பகுதியினூடாக 22 வறுமை அளவீட்டுக் கற்கைகளை மீளாய்வு செய்து இவ்விருத்திகளின் வீழ்ச்சிக்கும் எதிராக இலங்கையில் வறுமை அளவீட்டினை ஆராய்கின்றது. இது தற்போது கிடைக்கப்பெற்றுள்ள வறுமை அளவீட்டிலான தரவுகளை மதிப்பிடுவதுடன் முன்னேற்றத்திற்காக முன்னுரிமை வழங்கப்படவேண்டிய செயற்பாடுகள், செயன்முறைகளில் முக்கியமக பங்பகுபெருவோர் மற்றும் என்னென்ன படிகள் எடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்பவற்றை இனங்காண்கின்ற பரிந்துரைகளையும் வழங்குகின்றது.
